Problem:The picture of the back of
this alternator shows that the regulator plug is at the 9:00 o'clock position, but this
particluar unit (A-1133) is supplied in the 3 o'clock position.
The reason this unit was returned was because it was not charging.
During the clock position change the rotor was lifted out of the unit far enough that the
bottom brush came off the slip ring, causing the brush to break when the two end plaates
were matched up again.
This is the reason the alternator was not charging.
It is also possible that an alternator could still charge for a short
period if the broken brush still makes contact with the slip ring.
As you can see on the enclosed picture, the result of the brush slipping
off the slip ring caused the breakage not only of the brush, but also the brush holders.
Solution:
Please ensure the new alternator is in the same clock position as the
original. In the event that clock position must be changed, care must be taken to ensure
rotor remains seated in the rear housing to avoid brush and brush holder damaged. |
